J-Tek - Bringing It Back To Go Forward
Let us introduce J-Tek, the new label from a crew consisting of Outrage (Backlash, Metalheadz, Basement Records), Digital (Function, Timeless, Metalheadz), Modular (HardLeaders, Flex, Lab Logic), Aperture (Whisper Audio, Metalheadz, Paradox Music), and the original jungle don Randall (Mac II, Metalheadz, Reinforced) which brings back the long lost Jungle Techno sound. Fusing classic 4/4 rhythms and syncopated funk breakbeats, J-Tek takes us to a classic age of electronic music (1992-1994) that was short-lived, but full of energy. J-Tek serves as a bridge between the ideas of the past and the engineering of the future, and the 140-150 BPM tempo provides crossover ability with other dance genres. Once again, DJs will have the ability to build sets with elements of both House and Jungle, uniting the market. Mind you, this sound differs greatly from the days of old, and the J-Tek crew is aimed at employing their own identity when creating the music, deriving inspiration from Jungle, Techno, Electro, House, Acid, Hip-Hop, Dub, and Reggae – amongst other genres.
The first release consists of two monstrous tracks that have been doing the rounds world-wide and to devastating effect:
* A - Falling Bombs - Modular and Outrage
* AA - Living In A Basement - Modular
Side A consists of a serious Jungle Techno tune, consisting of blended 4/4 and amen sections marching on top of a few samples which may be very familiar to the listener. As soon as the bass drops, it will undoubtedly murder the dance floor. The tune’s content is pertinent to this day and age, and will strike a chord with anyone who has turned on their TV in the past few years only to see war, genocide, and human rights violations.
Side AA presents a masterful approach to the Jungle Techno sounds, and draws on Dub and Techno influence. Maintaining a steady 4/4 groove over bouncing subs and ethereal atmospherics before drifting into serious Rave stabs, this will definitely be one for the DJ looking to get the party going.
Artists currently supporting the J-Tek sounds include: Lennie De Ice, Ratpack, MJ Cole, Slipmatt, Remarc, Phantasy, Heartless Crew, Robbie D, Kenny Ken, Kirsty Hawkshaw, Darren J, Collective Intelligence, Maryanne Hobbs, Equinox, Double O, Paradox + many more!

WHAT A YEAR 2007 WAS FOR VIPER RECORDINGS. After dropping one of the years biggest albums in the form of Matrix & Futurebound’s “Universal Truth”, Futurebound has been flexing his A+R skills of late and has been preparing for another mammoth year in 2008.
KICKING OFF 2008 IN FINE STYLE, Viper brings you four cuts of moody dancefloor funk in the shape of the massive Headroom EP. Released in two parts bringing you cuts that have been setting off dancefloors worldwide recently.
Part 1 brings you the massive G Dub remix of the Viper classic by J Majik & Wickaman, "Fleshwound". With its massive haunting intro and relentless low end energy this track has been literally shaking every club it's hit on dub. This is backed up by "Crackdown", as the Brookes Brothers let out their heavier side with this tearing roller.
Released a week later, Part 2 sees Viper bringing forth the sounds of nu skool artists ShockOne from Australia and L-Plus from Slovakia. After the massive "Don't you Know", ShockOne gives us yet another slammer in the shape of "Way You Move". A blend of cheeky sampling and massive bass, it has been turning heads and waistlines all over the shop. New kid L-Plus debuts on Viper with the incredible tech funk of "Middle East Sun". Its modulated bass squelches in between raw choppy edits and murky atmospherics have caused mayhem on the floors and won massive support from the mighty Andy C and features on his forthcoming Nightlife 4 mix. This hugely anticipated offering from Viper is simply terrorising the dance at the moment and is nothing short of essential.

For those of you not in the know (and you should be ashamed!) the Co-Lab crew have been steadily building themselves a Drum & Bass empire for some years now. Their combined musical outputs include Calypso Muzak, Pure Vibez and of course, Co-Lab itself. So what better way to kick off 2008 than with a massive LP project that spans all three labels with a series of massive vinyl releases and encompasses one immense CD compiled and mixed by Heist and label owner Benny Co-Lab, liberally sprinkled with vocal flourishes from MC Funsta?
That’s right, there is no better way! The incredible diversity of the ‘Straight Out Of The Lab’ LP hits hard too, with exclusive productions and remixes from TC, Lomax, Jaydan, Taxman, Majistrate, Benny Page, Heist, Visionary, Malfoy, DJ Pleasure, Connecta and many more all expertly blended on CD or divided into loving, bite-sized chunks for all you DJs and vinyl fans out there.
First up will be the stunning sampler 12” which is already gathering massive support on BBC 1xtra as well as lighting fires under dancefloors across the globe. Heist leads the way with the almighty ‘Ambush’ while Lomax picks up the flack on the AA side with ‘Metal Flange’. Following on from that will be a succession of hot 12”s surrounding the release of the CD itself. Hotter than a cup of lava tea on a summer’s day!

Everyone knows that the New Year is a time for resolutions, and what better resolution could Full Cycle stalwart DJ Krust have than to inflict utter chaos upon you unsuspecting D&B fans with a massive double CD packed with classics and unreleased gems from the Full Cycle crew’s collective back catalogue?
That’s right, Krust has lovingly gathered a selection of his beloved beats spanning over a decade of Full Cycle love and, rather like a proud father, has blended them fluently for your aural delight. Featuring a big selection of Full Cycle favourites including Roni Size’s hoover-wobble monster ’26 Bass’, Die & Clipz’ modern classic ‘Black Doves’, Krust’s own comic book super villain ‘Kloaking Device’ and Die & Photek’s huge vocal smasher ‘Thunder’ (ft. Hollie G) alongside a few Full Cycle crew productions from other labels, such as Roni Size vs. Rahzel’s beatbox mastery on the incredibly sought after ‘Out Of Breath’ (originally on V Recordings) and Roni’s Jump Up ogre ‘Friends’ which appeared on Technique’s ‘Street Technique’ album.
Anyone who’s been a fan of Full Cycle throughout the years will be eager to get their hands on this double CD affair, and with promises of a series to emerge with more classic, unreleased and exclusive material from the FC vaults it seems ‘The Chronicles Of The Cycle’ are just beginning.

Another massive album for the first quarter of 2008 is the extremely fresh and ever so funky ‘Moodswings’ compilation from Spearhead Recordings. Spearhead has built up a devastating reputation over the last few years for delivering quality, melodic Drum & Bass, showcasing both new talent and seasoned veterans alike; an ethos that this new LP project sticks to nicely.
Injecting some bigger names into the mix is always beneficial to a large scale project such as this, and Spearhead have drafted in some of the scene’s biggest musical heavyweights including Marky & Bungle, Nu:Tone, Utah Jazz, A Sides, Muffler, LAOS, long time friend Kubiks and a selection of the freshest talent on the block to ensure that ‘Moodswings’ hits you harder than Mayweather’s ‘check hook’.
Lenzman’s ‘Caught Up’ gets a nifty Nu:Tone remix for the first half of the ‘Moodswings’ sampler 12”, while A Sides makes a guest appearance with the incredible ‘Lustrous’, making this a slab of wax not to be missed. Following the sampler will be a triple vinyl pack, sexy enough to make love to, featuring Marky & Bungle’s winter warming ‘Let Me Tell You’, Utah Jazz’ smooth and silky ‘Split Level’ and a slick, musically minimal BCee & Lomax remix of Electrosoul System’s ‘Moving In Transit’ alongside three other stunning compositions. Throw a CD album into the mix with a selection of exclusive tracks to run alongside their vinyl counterparts and you know that ‘Moodswings’ will pull you out of even the most
depressive disposition and have you raving in your living room!
